 How can I connect to my shared MSSQL Server Remotely?
Solution

Please follow these steps to connect to SQL Server remotely.

  • Ensure you have a valid hosting account with Web24 (Take note of your FTP Username and Password).
  • Create a SQL database through your hosting control panel (Take note of your Database Username and Database Password).
  • Have a copy of SQL Management Studio Express or similar as outlined in support document 184
  • Register your IP address for remote access via the website at  http://www.web24.com.au/sql/ .  You will be asked to authenticate with your account FTP Username and Password. If you don't have access to this information please contact support@web24.com.au for alternative authentication credentials.
  • Wait for your IP address to be approved and assigned to our firewalls. (Updates are peformed every 4 Mintues)
  • Start your copy of SMSE and enter the remote server name as sql.yourdomain.com.au, your Database Username and Database Password (don't try to use Windows Authentication).
